Section XI, Suffolk County’s governing body of athletics, has cancelled the New York State cross country qualifying meet originally scheduled for Wednesday at Sunken Meadow State Park, according to a report on Newsday.com.
The report cited logistical problems, saying that, “the state meet is Saturday at Elma Meadows (Buffalo), and running a qualifier on Wednesday would not allow runners enough time to travel to the state meet and then run on full rest.”
Newsday said Section XI announced its representatives based on the merged results from the Division Championships two weeks ago.
In the same Newsday piece, there were no Sachem athletes listed as participants in the state cross country races for boys or girls. The names were supplied by sport coordinator Tony Toro to Newsday via email.
