Sachem alum and student scientist Ruchi Shah was named as a runner up in the Yahoo Women Who Shine contest for the entrepreneur category.
Shah, who graduated from Sachem High School North last year as its valedictorian and attends Stony Brook University, will receive a $250 gift card and recognition from Yahoo.
“I am so thankful for this honor and it truly is a product of all of the support of the Sachem community,” said Shah in an email to Sachem Report.
Shah said the basis of her nomination was her work in creating an all-natural mosquito repellent. She is in the category of entrepreneurs.
According to the text for the competition on Yahoo, Shah was deeply moved by a trip to India where she saw a long line of people waiting for treatment for mosquito transmitted diseases.
