In all my years of covering Sachem, and the football program specifically, I’ve only come across a handful of images of John “Jumbo” Elliott.
With the hopes of creating a special Jumbo collage that has images from his time at Sachem, Michigan, and with the Giants and Jets, I was able to get my hands on a unique action shot of him playing in the 1987 Rose Bowl.
Michigan lost that game, 22-15, to Arizona State. Elliott, who graduated from Sachem in 1983, was a two-time All-American and an Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award finalist, left the school as Michigan’s school record-holder in career starts among offensive lineman.
The Wolverines played in four bowl games during Elliott’s stay on campus, posting a 35-13-1 overall record.
