Sachem East FH opens playoffs with big win

On Tuesday, for just the third time this season the Sachem East field hockey team allowed a goal. The Arrows, however, scored seven goals and opened the postseason with a 7-1 victory over Connetquot.

The top-seeded Arrows (15-0) will host Bay Shore on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the Suffolk County Class A semifinals.

Scoring goals for Sachem on Tuesday were Katie Trombetta (2), Shelby Trentini (1), Katie Shanahan (1), Ellen Vecchio (1), Kayla Caltabelotta and Katie Doherty. Taylor Giordano and Kyle Larkin each recorded assists.

Sachem East has not lost a game since Oct. 24, 2011, a stretch of 735 days. That’s a mark of 59-1 over the last two years.
