Waverly, Nokomis library students raise money for UNICEF

logo_unicef2Students at Waverly Avenue Elementary and Nokomis Elementary libraries raised money for United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Librarian Mrs. Cronin taught students about human rights and children’s rights through the UNICEF website.  The students in both schools were so interested in how they can help other children around the world, they decided to trick or treat for UNICEF.  Mrs. Cronin ordered the boxes online.  When they arrived the students were instructed to take one if they wanted to be a part of the fundraiser.  The students were very excited to get started.

The fifth graders went out on Halloween; some even went out before Halloween and raised money for underprivileged children all over the world.  The students eagerly returned their money to Mrs. Cronin who then asked each student to sign a UNICEF poster.  This poster is a world map that shows where Waverly and Nokomis students have helped other children. It is displayed in each library.

Thanks to our students, we raised $700  at Waverly Avenue Elementary and at Nokomis Elementary.  Mrs. Cronin is very proud of all her students for caring for other children throughout the world that need help.
