Sachem North senior Malik Pierre committed to LIU Post on Wednesday afternoon, according to Sachem football coach Dave Falco.

The senior running back/defensive back had one of the finest single-seasons in program history and helped Sachem win its first Class I Long Island championship as a fitting end to a dominant three-year varsity career in black and gold.

He chose Post over Stony Brook because of scholarship money and because in his eyes, “they really wanted me. I could help them be successful.”

“It really showed how much they wanted me and when I visited there I loved the campus,” he said. “It felt like a good fit.”

Pierre won the Joe Cipp Jr. Award as the top running back in Suffolk County last season. He was co-Team MVP at Sachem, Offensive MVP, and was also First Team All-State, All-Metro Honorable Mention, All-Long Island, All-County and All-Division.

What’s more is that Pierre took pride in his leadership role as a senior captain at Sachem last fall. He was a shining example of what hard work can do for players.

“We are very proud of Malik,” Falco said. “Hard work truly paid off for him. He has been a great leader, teammate and mentor for all of our younger kids in the program. He is a warrior on the field and a great role model off the field. C.W. Post gave him a great offer and I believe they got a great person for their program.”

Pierre will forever rank high in Sachem’s record books in multiple categories. He finished his high school career with 34 touchdowns (29 rushing), ranks third all-time in rushing yards with 2,686, ranks No. 1 in yards per carry for a career at 11.10, and ranks second with 10 career interceptions.

Post, just a 40-minute drive west of the Sachem community, competes in the Northeast-10 Conference and finished 5-6 overall last season. There is a long history of Sachem alums playing at Post from Dave Shanahan to Jim Byrne and more recent players like Sachem East alums Joe Botti and Chris DiIorio.
