Sachem alum Kirk Douglas was a part of television history on Monday night as Jimmy Fallon took over “The Tonight Show” on NBC.

Douglas, who graduated from Sachem in 1990, plays guitar for The Roots, The Tonight Show’s house band.

The Roots were formally the house band with Fallon on Late Night as well.

“Thank you for all the well wishing,” Douglas wrote on his Facebook wall. “The show you are about to see tonight encapsulates what we’ve been doing for the past five years and then tops it. Truly epic and bursting with heart, joy and laughter. It has been and continues to be a pleasure to work, play with all these people. So proud of our staff. So thankful for this gig. So much to come. We’re all sharing a historical moment on many levels. Much love to you all!”
