Another competition, another career milestone for Maria Michta.

Michta, racing at the USATF National Trials for the World Cup of Racewalking in Harry Wright Lake Park in New Jersey over the weekend, set the American women’s record in the 20k racewalk with a time of 1:31.10

“This is everything I wanted, I worked so hard, and I had so many people who helped me,” she told ArmoryTrack.com. “It all came together. And now it’s on to the World Cup.”

The World Cup will take place in Taicang, China in May.

Michta, who graduated from Sachem in 2004, did not win the World Cup Trials. That honor went to Canadian Rachel Seaman, the wife of her coach and Olympian, Tim Seaman.

Katie Michta, Maria’s sister, finished second in the women’s junior 10k with a time of 52:10.
