Sachem East girls basketball coach Matt Brisson was named Suffolk County Coach of the Year by Newsday.
Brisson, who announced he will retire from teaching and coaching at Sachem just prior to the season ending, led Sachem East to an appearance in the Long Island championship yet again this season.
His tenure as the girls hoops varsity coach dates back to the 2002-2003 season when there was just one high school in Sachem.
Since then he’s compiled a 218-48 record and has led Sachem East to two Long Island championships, and won a state crown in 2010.
