Sachem East earns second straight shutout

Make that two straight shutouts for Sachem East to open the 2014 season.

The Arrows beat Commack, 20-0, Friday night during their home opener.

Billy Carrol had 18 tackles and four Sacks and Connor Farrell added 14 tackles in leading Sachem East’s defense. The 18 tackles mark a single-game record (previous record was 17, held by Steven Casali).

Ryan Leone had 15 carries, 103 yards and 1 touchdown. Javon Abraham had 5 carries, 50 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 two-point conversion. Abraham also was 5-of-8 passing forĀ 52 yards and 1 touchdown pass, an 8-yard toss to Josh Hannah.

Sophomore Brendan Ryan had two interceptions and four tackles in defense.

Sachem East combined for 201 rushing yards. The team has combined for more than 500 yards on the ground in the first two games.

Inside the Numbers

  • This is the seventh shutout in program history.
  • This is the first time in program history that the team has recorded back-to-back shutouts.
  • This marks the fewest amount of points allowed for Sachem East through the first two games of a season.
  • Farrell now has 209 career tackles, just six away from breaking Steven Casali’s mark of 214.
