Sachem East’s Matt Bartnik has committed to play baseball at New York Institute of Technology.

Bartnik also considered Dartmouth, Albany, Binghamton and Brevard, but ultimately chose to stay local so his family can watch him play.

He said he likely would choose an academic major in the medical field.

A starting left-handed pitcher and first baseman, he will pitch in college.

With his senior season still ahead of him this spring, Bartnik hopes to lead Sachem East baseball to a league title and more.

“Make a run at winning the county crown,” he said.

He hopes to step in and play right away at NYIT, which competes in the East Coast Conference.
