Sachem North sophomore Eve Calabria has verbally committed to play college lacrosse at Division I Bucknell University.

Bucknell competes in the Patriot League and plays against some of the top programs in the country.

She was also considering Cornell, Villanova and Yale, among other top tier institutions.

Calabria comes from a lacrosse pedigree as her father John, a Sachem alum, was an All-American at Adelphi University and helped the Panthers win a National Championship in 1993. He is the head boy’s lacrosse coach at Syosset High School.

Sachem Report recently caught up with Calabria to talk about her college decision.

Why did you choose Bucknell?
I had considered multiple schools prior to my commitment, including Cornell, Villanova, and Yale. I have been to all of these schools but never got the feeling I had when I walked onto the campus at Bucknell. I really felt like I belonged there on that campus, with that team, under those coaches. It was just a great feeling.

What will you be majoring in and what are your career aspirations?
I’m going to major in psychology and minor in children’s education. I want to be a teacher like my parents in the future.

Did you feel less pressure now that you’ve committed?
The recruiting process is definitely stressful. It absolutely feels like a weight has been lifted off of my back since the commitment.

What goals have you set for the remainder of your high school career?
I want to help get Sachem North girl’s varsity lacrosse far into the playoffs. My teammates and I all hope to work hard for the next couple of years to try and win a championship, and I definitely want to be a part of that.

What does it mean for you to be a student-athlete in Sachem?
Sachem has been a well-known district for student-athletes for a while now and I’m proud to be a part of that. My dad went to Sachem and I want to be able to help take the teams I’m on to the next level and make a name for girl’s lacrosse here.
