Sachem North alum Michael Kearns, a freshman at Sacred Heart University, recently earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Kearns placed second out of 27 competitors at the St. Joseph Winter Invitational. He threw a personal best 14.58 meters (47’10”), which boosted him into third in the NEC rankings.
Following that performance, he won bronze by throwing another personal best at the Boston University Quadrangular Meet. The 49’ 3 ¾” throw qualified him for the New England Championships.
Kearns, who played football and competed in the winter and spring track programs in high school, won the Richard Van Norr Memorial Award as the top male student-athlete in Sachem last year.
