Former longtime Sachem lacrosse coach Rick Mercurio was inducted to the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Hall of Fame last week in a ceremony at the Huntington Hilton.
Mercurio, who coached at Sachem and Sachem East from 1985 through 2007, compiled 316 career victories. He led Sachem to a New York State championship in 1993 and was a finalist in the state finals in 1995.
A number of Mercurio’s former players and fellow coaches attended the ceremony to see his induction.
Later this spring he’ll be inducted to the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame.
