Steve Mills picked up his football career at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute right where he left off at Sachem North, as a dominant offensive lineman.

A former Richard Van Norr Award winner as the top male student-athlete in Sachem as a senior, and the Zellner Award winner as the top offensive lineman in Suffolk County, Mills won RPI’s Offensive Lineman of the Year Award at the annual football awards dinner this week in Troy, N.Y.

Mills, a sophomore center, was a key cog in RPI’s ground attack. The Rensselar’s averaged 235.3 rushing yards per game thanks to a strong offensive line.

Last season he was named RPI’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.

As a senior at Sachem, he was All-State, All-Long Island, All-County, All-Division and represented Long Island in the annual Empire Challenge.

He is majoring in mechanical engineering at RPI.
