Just a few short years ago Alec Sole was helping Sachem North capture a Suffolk County baseball championship. On Friday he hit a bases-loaded run-scoring single in a major league spring training game for the Tampa Rays.

Facing Al Alburquerque of the Detroit Tigers, Sole took a pitch to left field. The hit scored Cameron Seitzer and the Rays took an 8-5 lead. Tampa eventually won, 11-5.

Sole, who was selected by the Rays last season in the draft, is the first Sachem alum to play in a major league spring training game since Billy Alvino played with the Tigers in 2010.

He spent last season with Hudson Valley of the New York Penn League. We’ll find out this week where he’ll start the 2015 season.
