Sachem North assistant football coach Jimmy Gordon has signed a contract to play for Jacksonville in the Arena Football League.

Gordon, who played at rival Patchogue-Medford, spent last season as an assistant with Sachem and is expected back this fall.

He played collegiately at the University of Buffalo and was the team’s top tight end as a junior and senior.

Buffalo has been on a roll with landing players in the professional ranks. Khalil Mack was drafted fifth overall last year by the Oakland Raiders and Branden Oliver signed with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent last season.

Gordon, who tried out with the Orlando Predators earlier this spring, will play linebacker, snapper and on special teams for the Sharks.

He is joined on the Sharks by fellow Long Island native Scooter Berry, who starred at North Babylon and West Virginia.

HisĀ first game will be this Sunday in Philadelphia.

Sachem in the AFL

Just in case you’re wondering, there have been at least three players from Sachem who did compete in the AFL.

Most recently Chris Manno and Chris Onorato had a brief stints, and about 10 years ago Mike Miller played in the AFL2.
