Blackall wins NYS triple jump championship

Sachem North’s Leah Blackall won the New York State Division 1 Triple Jump at the NYSPHSAA/Federation Track and Field Championships at the University of Albany over the weekend. With a jump of 39′ 6.5″ on Friday, she earned a state title and all-state honors.

IMG_1160This jump qualified her for the Federation Championship on Saturday (top eight overall jumpers for Friday’s competition). She won the Federation Triple Jump Championship with a jump of 38′ 11.75″, earning her, as she stated, the “overall state title” and all-federation honors.

Blackall also placed fifth in the State Division 1 Long Jump Championship with a jump of 16′ 10.75″, earning her all-state honors in that competition as well.

The 4×100 meter relay, composed of Nikki Fogarty, Kelly Gardner, Leah Blackall, and Alyssa Leto, placed second in the State Division 1 Championship with a time of 48.30 seconds earning all-state honors.

This time, which was the third fastest overall in the competition on Friday, qualified the relay for the Federation Championship on Saturday. They placed third in the Federation Championship race with a time of 48.16 seconds, earning all-federation honors.
