Sachem alum and former NBA all-star Jeff Ruland has been hired as a scout for the Washington Wizards of the NBA.

Sachem Report confirmed this with the organization, but the Wizards did not offer specific information about Ruland’s scouting duties.

Ruland, who graduated from Sachem in 1977 and has his No. 43 jersey retired at the school, played for the Washington Bullets from 1981-1986.

He stared at Iona College where he was a two-time All-American and played for legendary coach Jim Valvano.

After playing professionally, Ruland was a coach at Iona and the University of the District of Columbia.

He is an inductee of the Sachem Athletics Hall of Fame, Iona College Athletics Hall of Fame and the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame.
