Keith Kinkaid records first NHL shutout

Keith Kinkaid, a Sachem East alum, recorded another memorable moment in his young hockey career: his first NHL shutout.

A backup goalie, and strong prospect, with the New Jersey Devils, Kinkaid helped his team to a 1-0 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday.

“It’s important for the team. I just want to help out the team and keep us in the playoff race,” Kinkaid told NJ.com after the game.

With 1:35 left in the game Kinkaid got a brief scare when the puck hit the post and his skate before finally being cleared out of his crease by a teammate.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Kinkaid said after the game. “I can’t even remember my last shutout. Get it off my back and hopefully it opens the floodgates.”
