Sachem North alum Shawn Murphy has been named a team captain with the New York Institute of Technology’s men’s lacrosse squad.

From NYIT: Murphy, an All-ECC selection last season, was named to the Preseason All-American Second Team. He earned his first USILA All-America honor in 2015, as he was second on the team with 73 points on 42 goals and 31 assists while scooping up 38 ground balls. Murphy had hat tricks in nine games last season with a career-high of five goals at Saint Anselm and at Roberts Wesleyan.

“Shawn will be the QB of the attack, running the offense from the X spot,” said NYIT coach Bill Dunn in a release about his captain selections. “His production has increased each year, and he will be relied on to make everyone around him better-day in and out.”

At Sachem, Murphy was a team captain during his senior year and was named All-County en route to scoring a team-leading 41 goals.
