Sachem alum Maria Michta did it again. She’s qualified for her second Olympic games after an outstanding performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Salem, Oregon.

Michta, who graduated from Sachem in 2004, also competed in the London 2012 games. She won the 20-kilomoter race walk in a time of 1-hour, 33-minutes and 41-seconds.

There has been a tremendous amount of literature about the Zika virus affecting this year’s Olympic games in Rio, but it will not stop Michta-Coffey, a microbiologist by trade who is now aiming at breaking into the top 20 finishers at the games.
