The 2017 Tom Toscano Foundation BBQ will be held Sunday, May 21st, from 2-5 pm at Irish Times Restaurant in Holbrook. Organized by a group of Sachem Track Alumni, this family-friendly event (named in tribute to former Sachem Track Coach and Administrator Tom Toscano) features live music, free burgers and hot dogs, numerous raffle drawings, and awards presentations throughout.
Special honorees at this year’s event include 2012 and 2016 Olympian Maria Michta-Coffey, 2017 Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Linda Detlefsen-Nicosia, and master Pole Vault Coach Jim Henderson. Also honored for service to the Sachem community will be Sachem North Athletic Trainer Mike Wulforst and Charlie Johnson Meet Coordinators John Horst, Dr. John Galligan, Michelle Taylor, and George Walsh.
All Sachem XC and Track athletes that competed at the New York State Championships throughout the 2016-2017 school year will be recognized, as well. Previous BBQs have honored Track Official Gary Westerfield, retired Athletic Director Pete Blieberg, and Sachem Alum (and Olympic Trials qualifier) Jeanna Composti.
Among the many raffle prizes will be exclusive Team USA Gear, a 55″ HDTV, and several large baskets donated by local businesses. There is no admission charge but donations will be gratefully accepted.
