Sachem Extended School Year Program Sets Sail on Great South Bay

The Sachem Extended School Year (SESY) program set sail on the Great South Bay with Sayville’s Wet Pants Sailing Association on Friday, July 28.

This was the 13th annual “Sachem Share Day,” a wonderful tradition started by Katie Taylor, Sachem East guidance counselor and Wet Pants member.

This year approximately 100 SESY students went for a sail around the bay, played ping-pong and other games with junior sailors, went on a scavenger hunt, and enjoyed lunch and ice cream in the Wet Pants clubhouse!

This event is one of the highlights of our summer, both for our juniors, and for the Sachem students. I am blessed to be connected to both of these groups, and hear all school year about how Sachem Share Day was the best experience of many a student’s summer.”

Everyone was inspired by the gorgeous day and the wonderful feeling these students experienced as many of them set sail for the first time.

The dedicated SESY and Sachem staff, including Tom Lipani, Dr. Kenneth Graham, Dennis McElheron, Bree Bunse, Tony Santo and Chris Henaghan, and the many Wet Pants volunteers, including Katie Taylor, Joe and Noreen Cunningham, and Emma Prokesch, made Sachem Share Day 2017 a huge success.
