Sagamore Couch to 5K Club Runs Santa 5K

Unique co-curricular activity has kids being active, striving for goals

The Couch to 5K club at Sagamore Middle School began training for a race in October and completed their goal of competing in the Santa 5K in Patchogue on December 3.

Around 55 students take part in the club and worked hard to participate in the race.

Staying after school one day per week, they followed a training app to help with their regimen.

The 5K was held to benefit children who need support during the holidays. Each runner brought an unopened gift to donate for the cause.

“I decided that running this club could help these kids get healthy, reach personal goals, and then give back to those who need help,” said Sagamore teacher and club advisor, Eric Berman. “These kids have worked hard.”
