Five from Sachem are Champs at Davidson Tourney

Sachem has multiple champions at local tournament

Sachem East and Sachem North wrestling combined for five champions at this year’s Joe Davidson Memorial Tournament hosted at Sachem North.

At 99 pounds, Sachem East’s Jared Weinhaus beat MacArthur’s Matthew Huggard, 5-0.

Brice O’Hara from Sachem East pinned his teammate, Antonio Camacho, in 1:53 at 132 pounds.

Sachem East’s Gavin Leath beat Jack Spahn from Islip, 6-1.

At 170 pounds, Sachem North’s Alezandro Aponte beat Eastport-South Manor’s Michael Parrish, 4-2.

Sachem North’s Joseph Confessore beat Farmingdale’s Josh Desousa, 6-5, at 220 pounds.

Eastport-South Manor won the tournament with a score of 380. Sachem East placed second with 345 and Sachem North was sixth with 274 points.

The tournament is named in honor of Davidson, a Sachem alum and former teacher and coach.

Both teams will be in action this week. Sachem East hosts William Floyd in a dual meet on January 5 at 4 p.m., while Sachem North hosts Central Islip on January 3 at 4:30 p.m.
