Handful of wrestlers from Sachem place at county tournament
Joe Confessore had the best finish of any Sachem wrestler during the Suffolk County championships this weekend. The Sachem North grappler finished second after losing 3-2 in triple overtime to Yashiya Minor from Hills East at 220 pounds.
Jared Weinhaus placed third at 99 pounds after pinning Hauppauge’s Andrew Maiorini in 4:23.
At 154 pounds, Gavin Leath placed fourth after losing to Islip’s Jack Spahn, 3-2, in the consolation final.
Sachem North’s Alezandro Aponte placed fourth after losing to Nico Ziccardi, 3-2, from Kings Park, at 170 pounds.
Sachem East finished ninth the county with 70.5 team points, while Sachem North finished at No. 25 with 48 points.
