Steven Casali won’t be the first Sachem alum to play baseball at Fenway Park, but he will be the first football player to suit up on the hallowed diamond. (Neal Heaton pitched for a decade in the big leagues, most in the American League.)

Casali, a former Hansen Award winner out of Sachem East, is entering his senior season at the University of Massachusetts next fall, and will have the honor of playing against Maine at Fenway on Saturday, November 11.

“The tradition and prestige of Fenway Park means so much to the people of Massachusetts,” UMass head coach Mark Whipple said in a statement. “We are excited to host a New England opponent in Boston next fall. This is another meaningful step for our UMass football program.”

Casali, along with two teammates, were recently featured on the main press release image in front of the famous scoreboard at Fenway (photo above).

As you may expect, Casali led UMass with 105 total tackles last season.
