Sachem Alum Eddie Delaney Presented with Athletic Hall of Fame Plaque at Special Homecoming Ceremony

Sachem East welcomed one of its all-time greats back home on Friday as 2007 graduate Eddie Delaney officially received his Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame plaque during a special ceremony.

Delaney was traveling in December when the original induction ceremony took place, but the moment was no less meaningful this time around. Surrounded by administrators, coaches, and current student-athletes, Delaney was presented with his plaque inside Sachem East and had the opportunity to address the football team — sharing his story, his gratitude, and a message of perseverance.

The visit also served as a reunion, as Delaney reconnected with several of his former football and lacrosse coaches, the mentors who helped shape his journey both on and off the field.

A standout All-County lineman at Sachem East, Delaney cemented himself as one of the premier players in program history before continuing his career at the University at Albany. There, he earned All-NEC honors three times and became one of the top linemen in program history. His dominance in the trenches, combined with his leadership and work ethic, made him a cornerstone player at both the high school and collegiate levels. He also earned the Maxwell Award, one of college football’s most prestigious honors.

Delaney’s story has long inspired the Sachem community and beyond. Standing 6-foot-6, he excelled as both a lineman and a lacrosse goalie — all while being born without a left hand. His resilience, determination, and refusal to allow obstacles to define him have made him a role model for generations of athletes.
