Sachem North Girls Shine at Section XI Indoor State Qualifier

The Sachem North girls’ winter track and field team delivered an impressive showing at the Section XI Indoor State Qualifying Meet, held Feb. 8-9 and Feb. 13 at Suffolk West, producing All-Section honors, a state championship qualifier, and multiple All-Time Top 25 marks in program history.

Leah Nowakowski Qualifies for State Championship

The highlight of the meet came in the 1500 meters, where junior Leah Nowakowski clocked a season-best 4:50.25 to finish fifth overall and secure a berth in the New York State Championship Meet. Her performance also ranks No. 5 on Sachem North’s All-Time Top 25 list, cementing her place among the program’s elite distance runners.

Isabella Boswell Breaks Into Record Books

In the 55-meter dash, Isabella Boswell ran a personal-best 7.39 in the finals after winning her heat in 7.41 during trials. Her 7.39 mark earned her fifth place overall and stands as the No. 4 All-Time Top 25 performance in school history.

Strong Relay Performance

The 4×400-meter relay team of Bianca Clarke, Madison Aiello, Meghan Drechsler and Evelyn Drechsler finished sixth in 4:16.14. The time ranks No. 13 on Sachem North’s All-Time Top 25 list and marks the squad’s third Top 25 performance of the season.

All-Section Honors in Race Walk and Throws

Hazelle Archaga delivered an All-Section XI performance in the 1500-meter race walk, finishing fourth in 7:39.62. Teammate Olivia Volforte recorded a personal-best 8:22.51 in the same event.

In the 20-pound weight throw, Jameka Fontaine earned All-Section XI honors with a fourth-place finish, launching a season-best 36 feet, 5.75 inches. Her throw places her among the program’s all-time leaders and highlighted a strong day in the circle. Luciana Amunategui also impressed with a personal-best 29-0.5, ranking No. 11 on the All-Time Top 25 list.

Fontaine also competed in the shot put on Day 1, finishing eighth with a top throw of 31-8.75.

Competitive Depth Across Events

Evelyn Drechsler added a strong effort in the 600 meters, finishing in 1:46.34 and showing a powerful closing kick over the final 200 meters.

Additional contributors included Jae Flores Rojas and Ari Flores Rojas in the weight throw, adding valuable team depth at a highly competitive meet.
