Sachem Alum Joe Scally Named to U.S. Men’s World Cup Roster

Sachem alum Joe Scally is headed back to the world’s biggest stage after being named to the United States Men’s National Team roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place across the United States this summer.

Scally, 23, continues to establish himself as one of the top young American defenders in international soccer. The Lake Grove native has made 24 appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team and currently plays professionally for Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany’s Bundesliga.

“A privilege to wear this badge,” Scally wrote on Instagram following the announcement. “An honor I’ll never take for granted! Blessed to be a part of a second World Cup with this team.”

Scally is one of 10 defenders selected to the U.S. roster by head coach Mauricio Pochettino. He is also among 14 players on the roster who previously participated in U.S. Soccer’s U-14 national program and one of 12 players who competed in the FIFA Youth World Cup before reaching the senior national team.

This marks Scally’s second consecutive World Cup selection. He was also named to the United States roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, though he did not appear in a match during that tournament.

Since then, Scally has continued to grow into an important piece of the national team player pool while gaining valuable experience competing at one of the highest levels of club soccer in Europe. Known for his versatility, toughness, and defensive consistency, he has become a reliable option on the back line for both club and country.

Now, he will have the opportunity to represent the United States on home soil as the nation prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, one of the most anticipated sporting events in the world.
