Sachem Alum Joe Scally Makes World Cup Debut as U.S. Advances to Round of 32

Sachem alum and Lake Grove native Joe Scally reached a major milestone in his soccer career on Friday, seeing action in the United States Men’s National Team’s 2-0 victory over Australia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The win secured the Americans a spot in the tournament’s Round of 32.

For Scally, 23, the appearance marked his first-ever FIFA World Cup match. While he has previously represented the United States on the international stage, Friday’s contest was the biggest moment yet in his national team career.

The United States continued its strong World Cup run with the victory over Australia, advancing to the knockout stage with a game still remaining in group play.

Scally, who plays professionally in the Bundesliga, has established himself as one of the top American defenders.

The United States will conclude Group D play against Turkey on Thursday, June 25, with a chance to strengthen its position heading into the knockout rounds.
