You read the game story, you know the key details, now let’s dive into the numbers. Friday night’s Sachem victory was a milestone event for multiple reasons.

Notes on the win

  • According to my records, this is only the second overtime game in Sachem football history. The first happened during the first round of the Suffolk County Division I playoffs in 1995. Sachem beat Lindenhurst, 22-14. On that team was current defensive coordinator Dave Caputo. Sachem head coach Dave Falco was an assistant.
  • Sachem is now 4-7-2 all-time against Bay Shore, and have still been outscored by the Marauders, 286-251. They began play against each other in 1962.
  • Sachem is 31-20-1 all-time in Week 2 games.
  • Sachem has started a season off 2-0 the last four seasons and just 19 times in 51 seasons.
  • Both teams combined for 17 touchdowns and more than 1,000 yards of total offense.

New team records

  • Sachem scored a program-record 63 points against Bay Shore. The previous record of 57 was scored against Sachem East in last year’s Suffolk County Division I semifinal. Until Friday, no Sachem team had ever broken the 60-point plateau.
  • Sachem also allowed a program-record 62 points, breaking a 49 year old record set in 1963 when Central Islip scored 51 against the Flaming Arrows in their third year of existence.
  • The Sachem combined points total record was shattered. It now stands at 125 (63-62), passing the mark of 83 set with Brentwood in 2009.

Spotlight on Trent Crossan’s night

  • Crossan scored a program-record eight touchdowns against Bay Shore.
  • Crossan scored 50 points in the game: 48 on touchdowns and one 2-point conversion. Only three other players in the history of Long Island high school football – dating back to 1884 – have reached that single-game total. The record is 54 set by Jason Gwaltney in 2004 at Copiague.
  • Crossan is the sixth player in Long Island history to score eight or more touchdowns in a single-game. That list includes former Olympian and Syracuse standout Ray Barbuti (Lawrence, 1923), and Gwaltney, who has the record of nine set in 2004.
  • Crossan is now just 127 yards away from becoming the 18th player in Sachem football history to reach the 1,000-yard plateau. Remember, he’s only a junior and missed half of his sophomore season.
Morris kicking his way into record books
  • Bryan Morris now has 98 PATs, seven behind the Long Island record set by William Floyd’s Jonathan Korn (105). He now ranks third all-time. His 98 career kicking points rank him fifth all-time in Suffolk history and 10th in Long Island history. The record is 139 set by East Islip’s Sean Mollar.
