Sachem Football Week 7: Inside the Arrows

A weekly look into the history and stats of both Sachem East and Sachem North’s football performance.

Sachem North 35, Longwood 21

  • Sachem has now won five or more games in 36 of its 51 seasons.
  • The Flaming Arrows are now 17-12 against Longwood since their first game against each other in 1986. Sachem has won the last four after going winless from 2004-2008.
  • After scoring 35 points, Sachem has crossed the 9,000-point plateau for the program since its inception in 1961. Sachem leads its opponents, 9,025-6,670.
  • Sachem is 40-12-1 all-time in Week 7 games, the highest amount of wins in any week in program history. Week 8 has been the next best week with 36 victories.
  • Sachem North is 22-0 playing at home on the turf at Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium since it was installed in 2009.
  • Sachem has scored 224 points this season, which is 11th most all-time in program history. The record is 422 set in 2010.
  • Sachem has also allowed 201 points, which is the fourth most in program history. The record is 265 set in 1966 under Kerry Lawlor, the original head coach at Sachem. Last year Sachem allowed 225 points, second most in program history.
  • On the brink of 1,000 (career): Earlier this season, Trent Crossan broke the 1,000-yard rushing mark for his career and both Malik Pierre and Tyler Andreassi are very close. Pierre has 923 yards and Andreassi has 994. Andreassi will join his brother Michael (1,966) in the 1,000-yard club, making the Crossan and Andreassi brothers the only backs with family ties to reach the plateau.
  • The Bryan Morris file: A brief update on Sachem’s historic kicker … Morris nailed five extra points against Longwood, improving his carer total to 109 PATs. He is 13 away from breaking the Long Island record of 121 held by East Islip’s Sean Moller.

Bay Shore 40, Sachem East 0

  • Sachem East is now 3-2 all-time against Bay Shore. They most recently played the Marauders last season in a 26-18 victory during Week 2.
  • This was the 11th time Sachem East has been shutout since the program’s first season in 2004.
  • This was the third worst loss – in terms of point margin – in program history. Also lost 57-0 to William Floyd in 2007 and 42-0 to Lindenhurst in 2011.
  • Sachem East has been outscored 185-127 this season and has only scored one touchdown in the last two games.
  • Coach Mark Wojciechowski is still one win away from tying Al Bertalone (10) as the winningest football coach in Sachem East’s young history.
