Amplo, Marquette lax featured in Lax Mag

There has been considerable news about Sachem alum Joe Amplo taking over and building the new men’s lacrosse program at Marquette University. It’s the first Division I lacrosse program in Wisconsin.

A recent story on LaxMag.com, the website for Lacrosse Magazine, gives a first-person account of Amplo’s work with the program to this point.

“Literally, as soon as I walked in the room, I could sense the excitement and the connection that I had with Marquette,” said Amplo about getting the job after being a longtime assistant at Hofstra University.

Amplo offers advice for new programs, the keys to building a strong staff, dealing with a practice schedule but no games, and the intricacies with an undertaking as big as starting a program from scratch.

“The most important thing with this program right now is creating that culture, and trying to convince these kids that what you believe you can do is not even close to what you can do, in everything,” said Amplo.
