Like last year, the Holbrook Fire Department gave the Sachem East field hockey team an escort to the Long Island Expressway as they left for the state tournament in Syracuse.
The girls were recognized during an assembly in the auditorium at Sachem East on Friday morning before a fire truck escorted the coach bus down Granny Road, south on North Ocean Avenue and eventually to the expressway. Sirens and horns blared through Farmingville as the girls take the trek upstate.
Sachem East (20-0) is looking to capture its second straight Class A New York State title. They will play Williamsville North in the state semifinals on Saturday with a potential game in the championship on Sunday.
