Sachem’s only loss of the day was to host Wantagh, 49-20, but the Flaming Arrows were able to beat Hewlett, Cumberland, and New Rochelle. Wantagh won the tournament, going 4-0.

The Arrows compiled a 3-1 record at the event, defeating Hewlett, 60-15, Cumberland (RI), 69-15, and New Rochelle, 70-4, while losing to Wantagh, 49-20.  It was the fourth consecutive year that Sachem North lost to Wantagh who finished last season as the No. 1 ranked dual meet team in New York State.

Standouts for North were 106 pounder Matt Stallone and 220 pounder Steven Mills who both compiled a 4-0 record on the day.  Also returning to action after sustaining a broken ankle in the off season was team captain Michael Falcon who finished with a 3-0 record including two pins and a tech fall.

Another great story line was the 3-0 start by eighth grade and 99-pounder Chris Corr. His varsity debut lasted just 1:12 when he took down Hewlett’s Andrew Speedowich and turned him for the fall. He followed that up by taking a forefit against Cumberland (RI) and a 5-2 victory over New Rochelle to finish out his first day on the varsity.

Sachem North will be in action again on Wednesday, Dec. 19 in the Sachem Takes Down Cancer meet at Sachem High School East as a benefit for East alum and former All-County wrestler Paul DiIorio. North will wrestle Brentwood, while East wrestles William Floyd.
