The National Honor Society at Sachem East has been on a good will roll this school year.
For Thanksgiving, NHS advisors Patty Zumbo and Tina Moon and NHS students contributed 40 boxes of holiday dinners for distribution to Sachem families in need. They also donated $800 for Stop & Shop gift cards.
The non-perishable food that was not directly used has been transferred to the Sachem East Food Pantry. Along with the food pantry, gift cards are available for Guidance and Student Service staff to distribute throughout the year.
After that big stretch of donations, it was time for Secret Santa. NHS students donate over one hundred items to distribute to their peers: purses, video games, movies, perfume and much more, which allows the club to supplement the faculty donations to add a material gift to a gift card, or to build a gift bag of goodies for a student.
The NHS at all Sachem schools will be continuing their volunteer efforts throughout the rest of the school year on various projects and outreach efforts.
