Caggiano back in the gym at Sachem North

caggiano_largeSachem alum Lauren Caggiano is the latest from Flaming Arrows country to hit the coaching ranks.

Tuesday evening was a memorable moment for her as she returned to the gymnasium at Sachem High School North in Lake Ronkonkoma. Only this time she came as the new head coach for the ladies basketball team at rival Ward Melville.

Caggiano, who graduated from Sachem East in 2007 and played at North before the split in 2004-05, played college ball at NYIT and Dowling.

Sachem North(1-5 League I) beat Ward Melville Tuesday for its first League I victory of the season. The Patriots are 1-6 in league play.

“Being a new coach this year, I’m just getting to know the girls,” Caggiano told NorthShoreofLongIsland.com last month.”I’m their coach now, and they’re still getting to know my coaching style compared to what they were used to last year. It’s going to be a big adjustment.”

She inherited a program that made it to the Suffolk County Class AA quarterfinals last year and is perennially in the mix.
