Stephen Kirk, a second grader at Grundy Avenue Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District, is a finalist in the New York Lizards Lacrosse Mascot Naming Contest. The Lizards are part of Major League Lacrosse.

He proposed the name “Laxer” for the mascot and is currently in second place, but will need many more votes to pull off a victory.

The name “Lazer” is currently in the lead with 60 percent of the votes, while “Laxer” is in second with 27 percent. Let’s give him the support of the entire Sachem community and vote for the name “Laxer”.

Because it’s customary at this point to find as many Sachem connections as possible with every story, remember that Sachem alum Doug Shanahan is currently a player on the Long Island Lizards. So potentially, we could have a Sachem alum playing for a team with a mascot named by a Sachem student. Just saying. #GoArrows
