Sachem East wins League I wrestling title

Sachem East won a League I wrestling tournament championship Saturday at Ward Melville High School.

The Arrows totaled 263.5 points to Brentwood’s 223 and crowded seven champions of their nine finalists.

Sachem East had its strongest run from 126 to 145 pounds with wins for Anthony Messina (126), Conor O’Hara (132), Jakob Restrepo (138) and Jackson Mordente (145). Mark Tracy (160), John Vigh (220) and Cristian Nunez (195)  also won league titles.

Wrestlers from both Sachem East and Sachem North will compete in the Suffolk County wrestling tournament next Sunday and Monday at Hofstra’s David S. Mack Sports Complex. East had 12 wrestlers qualify for the county tournament.

Brentwood’s Carlos Toribio (170 pounds) was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler, while Commack’s Dan Fiorvanti recorded the most pins in the least amount of time with four in 7:39.
