Sachem North’s 4×800-meter relay team won a winter track Suffolk County Championship this weekend at Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood campus.
When Alex Lazarich got the baton for the final leg of the relay the team was in third place. He used a late kick to pass Northport with 100 meters to go and North Babylon in the final 50 meters to win the championship by a few tenths of a second.
Lazarich was joined by fellow relay runners Ryan Beierle (first leg), Jason Karpinski (second leg) and Anthony Coccia (third leg).
“It was exciting for the athletes and their parents to see all of their hard work come to fruition today. The county championship was the product of commitment to the program and determination.”
