Five wrestlers from Sachem will compete in the New York State championships next week in Albany.

Gio Santiago was the only one who secured a bid by winning a Suffolk County title last week at Walt Whitman High School, while four others, who wrestled deep into the county tournament, received word Friday that their season has not ended yet.

The four wild card selections from Sachem are Steve Mills (North), Jackson Mordente (East), Conor O’Hara (East) and Cristian Nunez (East).

At counties, Mordente was a runner-up at 145, Mills was a runner-up at 220, O’Hara placed third at 138 and Nunez placed third at 195.

The state tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Times Union Center in Albany.
