Drama: “Legally Blonde” gets two thumbs up

Every time you go to one of these high school drama productions, you probably leave asking yourself the same question I do: “were those really just high school kids?”

Yet again the Sachem North Drama Club outdid itself with its production of “Legally Blonde” the musical. Sachem put on three showings across almost three weeks thanks to a spread out schedule in part because of the blizzard that caused havoc in the northeast.

It’s hard to believe the movie “Legally Blonde”, that has become a very recognizable film in modern pop culture thanks to starlet Reese Witherspoon, is already 12 years old. That movie was based on a novel originally written by Amanda Brown.

Directed by Sachem North Drama Club advisor Jonathan Chiaramonte, his students and staff put together another brilliant performance that is a shining example of how impressive Sachem’s arts and music students continue to be. From the actors and actresses to the musicians in the pit to the stage crew, and everyone in between, “Legally Blonde” gets two thumbs up.

Carley Matheus, a senior at Sachem North, had the luxury of playing the lead role of Elle Woods. Taking center stage was no problem for Matheus, who has also appeared in Sachem’s “Hairspray,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” and “Footloose.”

Michael Schulz, who previously appeared in “Lend Me A Tenor”, played Emmett Forrrest in “Legally Blonde” as the lead male actor to offset Matheu’s dazzling performance as Woods. The pair shined together and in their solo scenes.
