Students at Waverly Avenue Elementary School took part in their annual Valentine Box Project and collected 693 filled with gifts and toys for other children.

Kids from classes across multiple grades created shoeboxes filled with books, treats, snacks, drinks and toys.

“The boxes were wrapped in love then collected here at Waverly,” said first grade teacher Beth Ryan said.

The target goal was to collect 572 boxes to meet the needs of the seven shelters that Waverly provides for each year: Brighter Tomorrows, HELP Suffolk, Lighthouse Mission, AnnMarie’s House, Mary’s House, Project ReDirect, Lake House and Hour Children.

“We are so proud to say that we collected 693 boxes,” Ryan said. “A big thank you goes out to the men from [Sachem’s Facilities staff] for taking the time to deliver these boxes to the local shelters.”
