Earlier this month, Merrimac  Elementary School took part in “National Wear Red Day.”

“Not only did we raise $318 for The American Heart Association, but the enthusiasm from both the staff and students was energetic and contagious,” said Kathy Conner, R.N. at Merrimac Elementary.

Everyone involved had the pleasure of witnessing  firsthand  how Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People  comes to life each and every day in the building. The students contributed $1 in exchange for having their name written on paper hearts that are hung in the hallway. The halls were flooded with hearts of red.

“What a wonderful site to see,” Conner said. “I had handfuls of students volunteering their free time to help me hang up the hearts. That’s the way to synergize.”

The faculty donated $5 in exchange for dress down/wear red. Everyone wanted to participate and show support. The principal, office staff, teachers, and students all contributed to make this fundraiser run smoothly.

“It was a great team effort,” said Conner. “This is just one of the many events that take place in Merrimac Elementary School every day where I see students and staff being proactive, putting first things first, and beginning with the end in mind. I am reminded everyday as I walk through the halls and interact with the students and staff that I am lucky to be part of this dedicated school community.”
