Interact Club raises $1K for Jacob’s Light

The Sachem North Interact Club raised $1,000 for Jacob’s Light Foundation in February. The club members were moved by guest speaker and Jacob’s Light founder Dorine Kenney as she told the story of her son, SPC Jacob Fletcher, and his tragic death by a roadside bomb in Iraq 11 days shy of his 29th birthday.

On his birthday, Mrs. Kenney sent a package to one of his buddies who Jacob had said never received packages from home. This is what ultimately became the legacy for the Jacob’s Light Foundation and she has been sending packages ever since (10 years).

To date, they have sent thousands of packages to service members overseas and the Interact Club was happy to become part of this wonderful organization.  Also, club members attended a packaging for the troops at their warehouse in Ronkonkoma, which happens during the last Tuesday of every month.  They were extremely proud to help out.

In other news, at the Interact Club meeting last week we were awarded a “Bronze Walker” plaque from the March of Dimes for its fundraising efforts last year for the March for Babies by the Community Director of the March of Dimes. They raised over $2,600 last year and this year are gearing up for our walk in May with a goal of $3,000.
