North wins, places, shows at Lindy Relays

Screen shot 2013-03-31 at 1.01.18 PMHorse racing fans know the meaning of “win, place and show” in horse race track parley. Win = first place, place = top two places, show = top three places.

The Sachem North Flaming Arrows showed top three efforts eight times at Lindy Relays this past weekend. Sachem had event wins in the 2×100 m. high hurdles (Emily Rathmann and Nikki Fogarty) and 2×1500 m. race walk (Katie Michta and Natalie DeQuarto).

Sachem also placed second in four events (Frosh-Soph SMR, 4×100, 2xlongjump, 2xtriple jump) and third in two events (DMR and high jump).  Team scoring went six deep. Sachem added seven more scoring relays covering places four to six today to take second in team scoring.

Veterans led the team in many events throughout the relays. Melissa Michels, Sunja Joseph, Emily Rathmann and Nikki Fogarty scored in three events each.  Twelve team members scored in two events apiece.  In all, 28 team members contributed to team scoring today.

Screen shot 2013-03-31 at 1.01.23 PMSprinter-jumper Sunja Joseph was named Sachem Athlete of the Meet based on her outstanding performances in the SMR and on the long jump and triple jump relays.

Sachem will train through its dual meet bye-week as it prepares for its first-ever Icahn Stadium-Randall’s Island meet at next Saturday’s 20th annual King’s Relay Carnival.

  • North Babylon (NB) – winner of the 2012 State Quals 4×100 (Sachem placed second and qualified for NYS Championships along with NB)– was the only team to finish ahead of Sachem in the 4×100 m. relay.  Pending results from other weekend meets, NB and Sachem North hold the #1 and #2 4×100 m. relay times in NYS based on today’s meet.
