Merrimac Elementary creates 7 Habits City

Merrimac's 7 Habits City
Merrimac’s 7 Habits City

I first came up with “7 Habits City” on the first day of the art mural group.  It came to me when we were looking at areas that needed murals in our school.  When I was looking, I thought, “How cool would it be to have a 7 Habits City hanging in our school?” When the class ended, I told my best friend, Sarah, about my idea and she thought it was great.  At that time, we became art partners.  I told my art teacher, Ms. Matthews, about my idea.  She approved and said to bring in a drawing of the mural.

That night, I had Sarah over and we drew the city on a big poster.  I came up with a name for each building that goes with a habit.  Each habit, one through seven, was used.  All of the habits are expressed with each building.  The “Proactive Sundaes” building represents Habit 1, to be proactive and take charge.  “Begin With the End in Mind Music Store” represents Habit 2, make a plan.  There is a billboard that states Habit 3, “Put First Things First.”  “Think Win-Win School” is dedicated to Habit 4, everyone can win.  Habit 5, to seek first to understand then to be understood, is represented by a Recycle Center.  “Synergy Daycare” is dedicated to Habit 6, Synergize, together is better.  “Sharpen the Saw Pizza” is dedicated to Habit 7, Sharpen the Saw, balance feels the best.

To see the mural done makes me so happy and it looks so great!  I would like to thank my best friend, Sarah, for helping me with the design.  I would also like to thank all the kids from the art group for all their effort.  And last but not least, a big thanks to Ms. Matthews for approving the idea and making all this happen!

Thank you to these students for helping to create the Seven Habits City with me – Kaitlyn Quattropani, Paige Holdorf, Allie Przybylo, Patrick Gibbs, Zachary Milazzo, Ivy Young, Jessica Perrone, Chad Carney, Benjamin Luckow, Jaiden Anthony, Alexa Buonconsiglio, and Sarah Chapnick.
