Sachem High School North played host to the annual Suffolk County Football Coaches Association/Blue Chip Prospects football combine last weekend at Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium.

A number of Sachem football players were joined by hundreds of promising young gridders looking to make their mark before the 2013 season hits this fall.

The combine is designed to test high school football players who are interested in playing at the next level. It includes a 40-yard dash, 185-pound bench press, vertical jump, standing broad jump and 20-yard shuttle run.

The top 80 performers at the combine received an invite to compete at the New York State Elite Combine in Syracuse this June along with the best players in the state.

“The SCFCA Coaches Combine is a great opportunity for our kids to see where they stack up against other football players in the region,” said Sachem football coach Dave Falco. “It’s an opportunity to see where your off season training has paid off as we begin the final phase of training before the summer program begins.”

Falco also said the combine helps motivate players to continue to work hard as they go into the summer phase of preparation.

“From the coaches perspective we can get these numbers out to college coaches as they visit the schools during spring recruiting,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity to support Long Island football and promote our kids.”
